City Football Group (CFG) has confirmed that it has divested its shareholding in Mumbai City FC, bringing an end to its ownership stint in the Indian Super League club. Control of the club will now return fully to the founding owners, who will oversee operations and chart the next phase of Mumbai City FC’s development. Since partnering in 2019, CFG and Mumbai City FC have enjoyed a highly successful period, winning two ISL League Winners’ Shields and two ISL Cup titles while strengthening the club’s football operations and contributing to the growth of the game in India.

CFG said the exit followed a comprehensive commercial review and was influenced by the wider uncertainty surrounding the future of the Indian Super League. The group described the move as consistent with its disciplined, strategic focus on markets where it believes it can have the greatest long‑term impact, while stressing pride in Mumbai City FC’s achievements and appreciation for the efforts of players, staff, fans and partners. CFG also indicated it intends to continue building football relationships and partnerships in India despite stepping away from direct ownership of the ISL side.
