Mumbai, Maharashtra: Mumbai City FC have confirmed the arrival of talented midfielder Bidyananda Singh as the latest addition to their squad. The move will see the 21-year-old join the Islanders for Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20.
Born in Manipur, Bidyananda played his youth football at the Sports Authority of India (SAI), later joining the AIFF Elite Academy. Impressed by his exploits, ATK signed the youngster ahead of the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2016 season and ironically, he made his debut against the Islanders in October that year.
He made six appearances that season, doing his part in helping ATK clinch the title. The following year, he signed for Bengaluru and played a large chunk of Hero I-League matches for the ‘B’ team. His only appearance for the senior side came in the AFC Cup, where he played the final minutes of the tie against FK Altyn Asyr.
Last season, the midfielder was part of Carles Cuadrat’s squad but failed to garner any minutes.
The Islanders, meanwhile, look like a strong strong ahead of the coming season. Arnold Issoko and Lucian Goian’s loss has been more than remedied by the high-profile arrivals of Amine Chermiti and Mato Grgic. The influx of youth and pace within the side will come as good news for Jorge Costa, given Mumbai were one of the most lethal teams on the break last season.
